The WAC Detachment was first attached to the 3rd Bombardment Wing (M), then IX Bomber Command, then IX Bombardment Division (M) and finally, 9th Air Division.
Called the U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) until June 21, 1941. Then called the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) after that. The U.S. Air Force was established separately from the U.S. Army in 1947.
Hildie was in Company 169.
S/Sgt Hildegarde Molnar was the first WAC in her unit to cross the Rhine River in 1945 and go into Germany. She was a court reporter for the Judge Advocate General section and traveled throughout Europe for court martials.
"I'll Be Seeing You" was my mother's favorite song especially after she met Scotty in England in 1943. (A blatant teaser for the book).
Hildie was one of the first WACs to go to the ETO.
Only about 14% to 18% of WACs went overseas.
